Over 900 Wildfires in Belarus Since the Beginning of the Year: Grass Burning Leads to Catastrophic Disasters. Over 900 wildfires have broken out in Belarus since the beginning of the year. Dry vegetation fires have killed two people, injured three others, and destroyed or damaged homes, other buildings, and structures. Over 3,000 firefighters and over 1,000 pieces of equipment were deployed to fight the blazes. The largest number of dangerous situations occurred in the Minsk, Brest, and Grodno regions. The main cause of most wildfires is the burning of dry vegetation and careless fire handling. The Ministry of Emergency Situations urges citizens to observe forest bans during dry periods. Restrictions on forest visits have been introduced throughout almost all of Belarus. According to the Ministry of Forestry's interactive map, only two districts are currently exempt: Grodno District in the Grodno Region and Myadel District in the Minsk Region. During these restrictions, walking and mushroom and berry picking are permitted, but entry and fires are prohibited.
