Trade turnover between Brest Oblast and Vietnam grew by 2.3 times over the past five years. This figure was mentioned at a meeting between Chairman of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee Piotr Parkhomchik and a delegation from the Vietnamese province of Lao Cai, BelTA has learned.
Brest Oblast and Lao Cai Province have maintained sister-city relations since 2017. The delegation has come to take part in the International Forum of Business Contacts, which will take place in Brest on 28-29 April. “The visit testifies to mutual interest between our countries in many areas, primarily in the economic sphere,” Piotr Parkhomchik emphasized. The Belarusian region and the Vietnamese one are expected to sign a cooperation program for 2026-2028.
“For many years we have been steadily increasing efforts for more intensive interaction and view this visit as a new growth point for our relations. Brest Oblast is ready to share its many years of experience in agriculture based on using modern production facilities, high-quality raw materials, and advanced technologies. Our food products, especially dairy products, meat and fish products, are well known around the world, including in Asia. Our region produces and is ready to export a wide range of industrial goods: accumulators, equipment and materials for road marking, automotive components, and light industry products,” Piotr Parkhomchik listed some areas for cooperation.
Apart from that, the sides see mutual interest in joint work in the fields of education, healthcare, culture, and tourism.The head of the Vietnamese delegation invited representatives of Brest Oblast to pay a return official visit to Lao Cai Province.
