On compliance with fire safety regulations From January 19 to 22, the number of fires increased by 3.4 times - Brest Regional Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations. In the region, as of January 22, 2026, 103 fires were registered, which is 49 fires more (+90.7%) than in the same period in 2025 (54). The main causes of fires: violation of the rules for the installation and operation of furnaces, heat-generating units and devices - 36 fires; violation of the rules for the installation and operation of electrical networks, electrical equipment - 34 fires; careless handling of fire - 19 fires, including 12 fires due to smoking, the regional department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported. As practice shows, with the arrival of cold weather and a sharp drop in temperatures, the number of fires in the housing stock increases. The regional Ministry of Emergency Situations urged residents to observe fire safety regulations when using stoves, avoid creating fire hazards when smoking, and be mindful of electrical safety. To ensure their own safety and the safety of those nearby, install independent smoke alarms in their homes.
