STATE ENERGY AND GAS SUPERVISION INFORMS: Recently, there has been an increase in accidents involving the population related to electric shock, as well as those related to the use of gas at home. On April 17, 2025, in the Braslav District of the Vitebsk Region, two men were fishing on Lake Stavok. While moving from one spot to another with an unfolded carbon fiber fishing rod, one of the men brought the rod too close to the 110 kV overhead power line wires, resulting in an electric shock and the burning of his clothes. The second man attempted to extinguish the fire on the victim's clothes, resulting in burns to his hands. On January 11, 2025, in a dormitory in Minsk, a woman turned on the washing machine and went to take a bath. The woman also picked up a mobile phone and connected it to the power supply. Some time later, neighbors in the dormitory block heard strange sounds coming from the room. They opened the door and saw a woman shaking from electric shock. Despite resuscitation efforts, she could not be saved. On June 9, 2025, in the city of Lyakhovichi, a fatal accident occurred while using a flow-through gas water heater with an open combustion chamber. A girl born in 2004 suffered carbon monoxide poisoning, and while resuscitation measures were being provided to her in the apartment, a girl born in 2003 suffered carbon monoxide poisoning and lost consciousness. The probable cause of the accident was a combination of factors: operation of gas equipment without a supply of fresh air; interference with the ventilation system in the apartment; absence of a carbon monoxide alarm in the kitchen. Accidents related to clothing catching fire while cooking on gas stoves are also common. CAUSES OF ACCIDENTS AND MEASURES TO PREVENT THEM An analysis of the circumstances of accidents conducted by the State Energy and Gas Supervision Service allows us to conclude that their main causes are: - failure to comply with basic electrical safety standards and safety when using gas at home; - damaged insulation of electrical wiring, extension cords. - use of faulty electrical appliances and gas-using equipment. Check the wiring and electrical appliances you use at home. Using faulty electrical appliances or wires with damaged insulation can lead to disaster. An analysis of accidents shows that most of them could have been avoided if a residual current device (RCD) had been installed in the electrical network of a house or apartment. Of all andOperation of gas equipment without a fresh air supply; tampering with the ventilation system in the apartment; lack of a carbon monoxide alarm in the kitchen.
